Obituary of Roselyn Newlon
Please share a memory of Roselyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roselyn Seals Newlon, 89, went to be with her Lord on April 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 2, 1927 in Jefferson, PA, daughter of the late John Seals and Emma Weatherholt.
Roselyn graduated from Morgantown High School in 1945 and was a member of the Sabraton Baptist Church for 72 years. Roselyn joined the church in 1944 when she was 17. She taught Sunday School for many years and participated in a number of Church groups such as: Young-at-Heart, American Baptist Women and the Church Choir. After the death of her husband, Bob, Roselyn donated the Church chimes to remind others of God’s love.
Her family and friends knew her as a good, strong Christian woman with a big, sweet, and compassionate heart. She was a great wife and an even greater mother and role model to her daughters who were there for her at the end of her beautiful life. She was an artist, a gardener, a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed making braided rugs and crocheted items for her family and friends. Her cooking and baking skills were legendary especially her famous “sugar cookies” and “cinnamon rolls”. Roselyn was always passionate about growing things and honoring God’s nature and beauty. Her favorite flowers were red roses, which she carried at her wedding ceremony.
Roselyn was married to Robert (Bob) Newlon (deceased) for 58 years and together they had four daughters: Sandy Phares (married to Don), Penny Shilling (married to Gordon), DeeDee Newlon, and Nancy Jackson (married to Rod); ten grandchildren: Bob, Ken, David, and Karen Phares (deceased), Tonya Moore, Erica Alexander, Marc and Zach Manilla, Rob Wolfe, and Krista Mitchell; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Roselyn has seven siblings: Norma Lou Eddy (deceased), Donna Huffman, Kay Nowlin, John (Jack) Seals, Judy Campbell, Becky Walker, Sue Ellen Kingan. She is also survived by her mother-in-Law Lucille Newlon, who also raised her as her own daughter, and that’s another story altogether…
The family would like to offer special thanks and appreciation to Dee and Carrie of Hospice for their loving care given to Roselyn.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Tuesday, May 10th from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Ave., Morgantown on Wednesday, May 11th from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. with Pastors Don Phares, Scott Whetzel, and Lenny Delaney officiating.
