Charles Cira, Jr., 88 a lifelong resident of Morgantown, passed away on July 11, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born January 22, 1928 in Richard, WV, a son of the late Charles Cira Sr and Valeria Rusz Cira.
Charlie attended Morgantown High school and enlisted in the military Army of Occupation his senior year at the age of 17.
Charlie worked for the Morgantown City Police Department from 1952 to 1972, retiring as a lieutenant. After retiring from the City of Morgantown, Charlie became the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Departments 1st Chief County Investigator where he retired after 21 years.
Charlie was an investigative expert in crime scene investigation and taught investigative techniques at Fairmont State College and 16 northern West Virginia counties.
He is survived by his children, Celeste Jean (Mark) Green of Louisville KY, Karen Sue Cira of Charlotte NC, Charles John (Tamela Nailer) Cira of Morgantown, WV; Siblings, John Cira, Waco KY, Elenora Bungard, Frankfort, Mich, Marian Lynch, Ashburn , VA, Pauline George, Rawlings, MD, Dan Cira, Ranson, WV; grandchildren, Joseph (Amber) Tagnesi, III, Jo-Cel (Jeremy) Barker, Courtney Cira, Morgan Cira, Christina Cira (Anthony) Shields, Mackenzie Cira; great grandchildren, Michael Tagnesi, Cekara Tagnesi, Holli Ingram, Zoe Cobb, Kira Barker, Lucy Cira Shields
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Delores Mae (DeLucka) Cira.
Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown has been entrusted with arrangements. Friends and family will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Thursday, July 14th from 4-8 PM. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at the church on Thursday at 7:30 to conclude the evening visitation. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, July 15th from 10 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover with full military funeral rites being conducted at the mausoleum.
