Obituary of Craig Andrew Tanner

Craig Andrew Tanner, 39, of Morgantown, WV passed away unexpectedly July 16, 2016 of an acute illness. He was born January 17, 1977 in New York City to Jack & June Tanner. He lived several places in his life including Long Valley, NJ & Washington Crossing, PA. He eventually settled in Morgantown and made it his home. He accomplished a lot in his life, becoming an Eagle Scout, a black belt in karate, and a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. After a few years at WVU, he became a chef at JT’s Restaurant and his family loved when he made “Daddy’s Famous Chicken.” He managed several businesses in Morgantown including Brass Alley Pub and Bent Willey’s. He was known for his quick wit, charisma, and jokes. In 2008, he joined his father in the construction business at ACI Restoration. Although he enjoyed the work, he wanted to make people happy so he fulfilled his dream of owning his own bar where he could gather all of his friends and family. He never met a stranger and anyone who came to Tanner’s Tavern was treated like family. He believed family and friends were everything and would do anything for them. He is survived by two beautiful daughters, Avery Grace Tanner and Shea Elizabeth German-Tanner and his wife, Alex (Jalah) Tanner; his parents, Jack & June Tanner; his sister Vanessa Tanner Meredith and her family, Chris and Willow; his Godmother, Suzanne Berrie and family; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Lakeview Resort in the Reflections Ballroom; friends will be received between 1-4pm with a service at 4pm. After the service, friends are invited to join together in the celebration of life at Bent Willey’s/The Vintage Room on Chestnut Street from 5:30 - 8.
