I met Nancy through the WVU Global Health Program and had many wonderful conversations with her. As a young physician who shared a medical diagnosis rather similar to hers, we bonded over the process and its difficulties.
Thank you Nancy for your kindness, common sense, responsiveness and directness. The positive effect you have left on this world will continue to be that of a strong stone leaving its ripples on a vast body of water. Your family was blessed to have you in their world.

Dear Nancy,
You departed this life much too soon, but the legacy of your love in action among those of us who knew you is something we will cherish forever. Your thoughtful and competent support through many years of the Global Health Program is an example to all, and your departure leaves us with a great sorrow in our hearts and minds. To your family, we offer our condolences, our hopes, and our prayers as they adjust to your physical absence. May they be comforted by the memories of a live well-lived which glorified God and showed great love to family, friends, and colleagues.

My thoughts, love, and prayers are with all of you at this time. May God's strength and faith be with you. I knew Nancy from my work at the Health Science Center and from classes I taught in the Tropical Medicine course. She was a very dear person, worked so hard, loved so many, and will be dearly missed. Nancy knows God's eternal peace and presence. God bless all.

I'm very sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. I knew her for over 25 years. She was my dad's secretary (Dr. Raymond Smego, Jr) and close friend to the family.
Whenever I saw Nancy, she always had a bright smile. She was always welcoming, thoughtful, and so kindhearted. I'll remember the pride she showed whenever she spoke about her children. She was instrumental in organizing my dad's lovely memorial service at WVU and for that I will always be thankful. Thank you for everything you have done for my family. Until next time, Nancy.

We are so very sorry to learn of Nancy's passing. She was an invaluable member of WVU's Global Health team. Along with the late Ray Smego and John Hall, she was instrumental in establishing our highly successful Tropical Medicine diploma, which often has more participants than any other program in the country. While she was not one to travel outside the US, she loved meeting people from all of the world who literally came to her, including her home. She would host diploma participants from all over the world for a wonderful pool party at her house on the 4th of July. She made every visitor feel welcomed and loved. Beyond the tireless work, there was always her smile and kindness. While she is irreplaceable, please know that Nancy impacted the lives of many people all over the world. Those of us who were so blessed to have worked with her at WVU will honor Nancy by ensuring her legacy of global work continues.
With deepest sympathies, Dana Friend and Chris Martin (WVU Health Sciences Center)
