Obituary of John Edward Simons
John Edward Simons, 48, of Morgantown, passed away suddenly of a heart attack, on May 17, 2017 in Worthington, WV.
John was born in Morgantown, WV, on February 20, 1969, a son of Bernard and Dorothy Simons.
He graduated from Saint Francis High School. He attended Fairmont State College and attained his degree in Business & Insurance. John was an excellent salesman and a very hard worker. He was currently employed with American Income Life Insurance Company. He attended Saint Mary’s Church and was a very devout Catholic and loved saying the rosary. John loved gardening and planting flowers. He also enjoyed swimming, water skiing, and all animals. He was an avid fan of Penguin’s hockey, Steeler’s football, and WVU sports.
He is survived by the joy of his life, daughter, Laila Marie Simons; his mother, Dorothy Simons; brothers: Dr. Bernie “Butch” Simons and wife Laura, and Stephen James Simons; nieces: Allison Renae Simons, and Nicolette Marie Simons; Laila’s mother, Amy Dawson; uncle, Steven Koval and wife Jackie; aunts: Carole Koval, Janice Wimer, and Susan Simons; several cousins, friends, and his wonderful cat, Tiger.
In addition to his father, Bernard Simons, John was preceded in death by his favorite animals: Ernie, Seth, Big Sexy, and Too Sweet.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Sunday, May 21, from 4PM-7PM with a 6:30PM scriptural wake to conclude the evenings visitation. Visitation will continue at St. Mary Catholic Church, 3334 University Ave, Star City, on Monday, May 22, at 10AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.
