Shirley Edward “S.E.” Godfrey, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, August 3rd at his home with his devoted daughter by his side.  He was born February 14, 1927 in Morgantown, a son of the late Ottie and Ila Carder Godfrey. 

 

He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Church and served his country during World War II as an Army Tank Driver in Italy.  He was part owner of Mountaineer Contractors, Inc. until 1984 when he started Morgantown Excavators, Inc. working side by side with his son.  In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his children, Tonya Baird and her husband John and Mark Godfrey; grandchildren, Dr. Brittany Baird, John Godfrey “J.B” Baird, Austin Godfrey, Jakob Godfrey, Lakynn Godfrey, and Spencer Dana Godfrey Clawges; and a brother, Don Godfrey and his wife Chris.

 

S.E. passed away on the date of his wedding anniversary with his late wife, Trudy.  In addition to her and his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Godfrey. 

 

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Monday, August 7th from 5-7 PM.  Family graveside services will be held on Tuesday.
