During that time, he was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and was instrumental in helping establish scholarships for Clay Battelle High School students. He also coordinated the school's annual Shadow Day where students visited Rotary members  at their places of work to learn about different occupations.

He was active in the Suncrest Garden club and Valley Falls State Park Foundation.  His participation in these groups allowed him to establish many lifelong friendships.  He attended Stonebridge Baptist Church and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, as well as a mentor to many.  He was a kind, generous, loyal man who lived the Scout Creed everyday and always had a smile to offer even in the face of suffering.
