Obituary of Stephen Parker Malcolm

Please share a memory of Stephen Parker to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stephen “Steve” Parker Malcolm, 66, returned to his heavenly home on September 29, 2017 after a valiant battle with the effects of diabetes. His devotion to the Lord sustained him in his lengthy struggle and gives us peace that his soul is happy and free.

Steve was born in Bridgeport, WV to the late Parker and Geraldine (Nuzum) Malcolm on February 3, 1951 and the family moved to Morgantown when he was seven.  A graduate of Morgantown High School, Morgantown Business School and WVU, he taught primarily physical education and math in both public and private schools throughout W.Va. and a number of other states. He was raised in the Church and spent much of his life working, preaching and serving in Christian settings. Steve’s overriding mission in life was helping youth to develop physically and spiritually.  In addition to launching innumerable basketball teams, he also founded a church camp.

Steve is survived by his sister, Carolyn Wisman; and his brothers, Dave and wife, Pat; John and wife, Nancy; and Fred and wife, Terri, close relatives, friends and hundreds of former youth he coached, mentored and helped.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim and wife, Faye; a sister, Barbara; and brother-in-law, Gary Wisman.

The family gratefully declines flowers and donations, but prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com. Contributions to a youth program of your choice in Steve’s name would be a fitting memorial.

Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown on Saturday, November 11 from 1:30 – 3:30 PM at which time there will be a celebration of Steve’s life.  A private interment at the Benedum Cemetery in Bridgeport alongside his parents will occur at a later date.
