Deepest Sympathy and blessings to the family and friends of John Whitty what a remarkable and . talented individual who had gift to inspire and evoke thought, emotion and promote the performing arts to others through his abundant personality, acting, presence and vocalizations. My late mother Professor of Ag Economics at WVU and I so enjoyed knowing Dr. John Whitty over 40 years and whether on stage,, of off he was remarkable. Portrayals in Unto These Hills, Man of La Mancha and Gosper According to Matthew or Luke were exceptional events. His devotion to faith guided his promotion of performing arts and educating others. He was like a steady oak member of St Thomas A Becket strong, supportive and ever present. He also had a great sense of humor, joy of laughter anfd reflected his joy of life and interaction w others. His memory will long remain in hearts of so many and he indeed made a lasting impact in so many ways. Blessings.

I am John's cousin on his mother's side.
Over the years, I saw much less of "Johnny" than I wanted. When I was young and visiting the family, he was usually in Chapel Hill, New York, Iowa or somewhere. Occasionally I would be with the family to catch "Unto These Hills" or "The Lost Colony." Later, I was fortunate enough to visit with he and his family in the family cottage in coastal North Carolina.
I did drop in on he and Sarah in Morgantown for a few days in the Fall of 2001. We exchanged family lore, memories and had plenty of laughs. He was healthy then and seemed happy in retirement. I feel fine in having those last memories of a guy I was always fond of.
My love to Sarah, David and "Kitty," and to all of the daughters and their families. We are all better people for having him in our lives.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to and for Dr. Whitty's family. May God comfort you and keep Dr. Whitty alive in your hearts with good memories. I learned a lot in his theater history class and enjoyed the productions he directed and appeared in during my college years as a theater major at West Virginia University. His performance as Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha" was quite moving and stands out in my memory. May he rest peacefully in God's arms.

Oh, dear people. I am so sorry for your great loss. John was a Light in this world. Sarah, it just occurred to me that we never told you that you and John provided such an incredible example of a good marriage, two people as one, when Robert and I were trying to figure out how to do that. We love your whole family very much - individually and as a brilliant ensemble. Thank you for sharing yourselves with the world. We will hold you in our hearts with prayer and Grace as you grieve.
As we say in the mountains, "Holler if we can do anything."
Love,
Carol

We were so blessed to have Dr Whitty in our lives. People will never understand why we have such an infinity for the people who made us who we are today. John molded us. He helped us understand that we are who we are because of the people who taught us. so very thankful he joined us for our last reunion. He will always be with us when we return once more to Morgantown. Rest well Dr Whitty.
