Obituary of Eva George
Eva George, 94, of Star City, passed away on February 13, 2018 at her residence.
Eva was born in New York, on August 30, 1923. Eva had a beautiful childhood being raised in Ithaca, New York. Her parents graciously allowed Eva to be reared by her Uncle Joseph and Aunt Mary (Kalta) who couldn’t bear children. Eva was proud of her Campfire Girl childhood and singing in her church choir for her Uncle Joe.
To be nearer to her family, in the 1950’s, Eva accepted employment with the Payroll Department of WVU and in time became its Payroll Officer. In Morgantown, she resided with her younger sister, Miss Sarah George. In 1960, her nephew, Tom George, joined the sisters who together became lifetime members of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church. Eva enjoyed singing in St. Mary’s choir and participating in all church activities including bake sales, dinners and especially holy day celebrations. Eva was a founding member of the Wiles Hill Neighborhood Association and proud of her family’s participation in the revitalization of the neighborhood. Friends and family fondly remember Aunt Eva for her generosity and her walking cookbook memory skills and love of cooking.
Eva is survived by her sister, Sarah, and brother Joseph M. George (Catherine). Eva enjoyed many beloved nephews and nieces who were treated as her own children. Friends and family fondly remember Aunt Eva for her remarkable memory, generosity and the person to call with an “how to cook it” question.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, February 15th from 5-8 PM. A Panachida Service will take place at 7:30 PM on Thursday to conclude the evening visiting. Visitation will continue at the St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 19 W. Park Ave., Morgantown on Friday, February 16th from 9 AM until the time of the Divine Liturgy Service for the Departed at 11 AM with Father George Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 19 W. Park Ave., Morgantown, WV 26501.
