Obituary of Eleanor Johnson
Eleanor “Scottie” Johnson died peacefully at home with her family by her side. She lived long enough to hold her newborn grandson, Scott. She was born on July 31, 1949, in Atlanta, GA where she grew up and lived most of her life. She and her husband, Jack Meadows, recently moved to Morgantown, WV to be near their daughter, Erin Setzer. Scottie worked as a nurse in women’s health and later caring for children as a school nurse. Her influence led her daughter to become a physician.
Scottie was busy in retirement and took nothing for granted. She became a master birder, volunteered for Audubon, took art classes, traveled, taught Tai Chi, loved to garden and explore the outdoors. Scottie was excitedly anticipating the arrival of her grandchild. Scott Kane was born April 7 and was held by his grandmother several times prior to her death.
Scottie was predeceased by her mother and father. Survivors include her husband Jack, sister Clare (Johnson) McFadden, daughter Erin Setzer (Murphy Kane), grandson Scott and step-daughters Abi Meadows and Amy (Meadows) Morici.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Audubon Society P.O. Box 422 Morgantown, WV 26507, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society P.O. Box 98018 Washington, DC 20090-8018.
In accordance with her wishes, Hastings Funeral Home, Omega Crematory, will provide cremation services. There will be no public services.
