Ronald Ellsworth Henry passed away Monday June 4th, 2018 at Mapleshire. He was born August 2nd, 1919 on his family’s farm in Laurel Point that was given as a land grant in 1773.

Ronald was a descendent of Aaron Henry who fought in the Revolutionary War. He served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was an avid gardener who thrilled neighbors with his garden on Wiles Hills. He worked for Olin Matheson Chemical Co. in Westover, Rayonier in Fernandina Beach, FL and the Westover Cable Co in Morgantown for twenty years.  In his retirement he spent many years doing research on the genealogy of the Henry family. Ronald was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his children: Cynthia Kudren and her spouse, Peter, Linda VanOoyen and her spouse, Pete, Betty Raeder, Rhonda Lewis, and Mark Henry and his spouse, Wendy Sue; his grandchildren: Aaron and Brian Raeder, John Herndon-Lewis and Tonya Fluharty, Pele Kudren, and Aaron and Michael Henry; three step grandchildren: Kent VanOoyen, Julie Strecker, and Carol Roby; eight great grandchildren; half-brother Cecil Synder; and many nieces and nephews.

Ronald is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Effie Ball Henry; his parents, Omer and Stella Henry; step-father Gyle Synder; his brother, Roy Henry; sister, Shirley Tennant; and his son-in-law, Tom Raeder.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home, Omega Crematory. A celebration of his life will be held on August 4th, details to follow. He will be inurned with his wife at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made in his name to the Westover United Methodist Church, Laurel Point Methodist Church, or Planned Parenthood, an organization he supported.
