Obituary of Anne Leslie Ridings
Anne Leslie Ridings, 72, of Morgantown, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 8, 2018 following a twenty-two year battle with cancer, at Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
Anne was born in Steubenville, OH on April 23rd, 1946, a daughter of the late Aubrey Linwood Davis and Elisabeth Cattrell Davis of Weirton, WV. She graduated from Weirton High School in 1964 and moved to Morgantown to attend West Virginia University where she met and married James S. Ridings on May 20th 1966.
Anne is survived by her husband of fifty-two years Jim Ridings and their two daughters; Catherine and Eric Staddon of Morgantown and Susan Montgomery of Morgantown, WV. Anne has three grandchildren Ashley Moore, Zachary Montgomery and Payton Staddon of Morgantown, WV. Anne is survived by her three brothers and one sister: Jeff and Jenny Davis of Miamisburg, OH, Peter Cattrell of Berkley, CA, Paul and Nancy Davis of Port Orange FL, and JoLynn and Dave Zatezalo of Wheeling, WV.
Jim and Anne were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Uniontown, PA, where Anne taught for many years at the private Christian school founded by the church. Anne taught English at the school and was a beloved teacher to all her students. Anne taught women’s bible study at Calvary Baptist Church and at Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Morgantown, WV. Anne also taught a Wednesday morning bible study in Morgantown, WV for many years.
Anne worked in the West Virginia University basketball office for many years. She enjoyed supporting the coaches and players on the WVU Men’s Basketball team. Jim and Anne spent many happy years on the farm in Bruceton Mills, WV. In addition to her love of teaching, Anne was an avid writer of short stories and poems many of which were published. Anne owned and operated a grooming business for many years in Morgantown and Bruceton Mills. She had an extraordinary love for all animals great and small.
Anne’s family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Frances Hoskins of Morgantown for her long term care of Anne and support of the family. Special thanks to Kristen Neldon and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Services of Morgantown. Thank you to Rochelle Nikzad and the staff at WV Caring for the special attention shown to Anne and family in her final days.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Sunday, June 10th from 5-8 PM. Visitation will continue at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst St., Morgantown on Monday, June 11th from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Douglas Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
