Obituary of Melva Eileen Strawser Rodeheaver
Melva Eileen Strawser Rodeheaver, 87, previously of Reedsville, and the daughter of the late Noble Strawser and Grace Cline Strawser, departed this life on Monday, July 23, 2018, at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Church of God since 1950. She served in many different positions at the church. She began teaching Sunday School at the age of 18. She served 35 years as a trustee. She was also a church secretary, treasurer, and choir director.
During the late 1960s, Melva served as a Grey lady, an American Red Cross group at Monongalia General Hospital. In the late 1980s, she sang in acapella choir and the WVU Community Choir. She was a founding member of the Ladies Auxilliary of Heartland of Preston County and helped with crafts and fundraising for the Heartland residents. She belonged to the Tunnelton Senior Center and the Auxilliary of VFW Post # 2345.
Prior to retirement, she worked for Montgomery Ward, Monongalia County Schools—University High School, and was a staff member for in Touch and Concerned, a United Way Agency.
Melva was survived by three daughters: Mrs. Robert “Linda” Hanlin, Mrs. Charles “Betty” Gatian, and Mrs. Mark “Sandy” Armstrong; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rodeheaver, Sr., and their son, Robert Rodeheaver, Jr.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. on Saturday, July 28th, from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Prinkey officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Garden.
