Obituary of Jo Ann Squires
Jo Ann Vankirk Squires, 78, of Morgantown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 12, 2018, surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 18, 1939, a daughter of the late Otha and Grace (Bacorn) Vankirk of Morgantown.
Jo Ann leaves behind a legacy of five generations as follows: daughters Cindy (Nathan) Pratt of Fairmont, Debbie (Bobby) McCardle of Morgantown, and Bonnie (Jim) Southern of Morgantown; grandchildren, Michelle (Noland Blosser Jr.) Clayton of Morgantown, Jeremy “Chop” (Emily Morris) Christoff of Morgantown, Jo “Jozy” Blake of Morgantown, Melissa (Josh) Leasor of Florida, Crystal (Kurt) Criss of Grafton, and Jennifer Pratt of Fairmont; great-grandchildren, Felicia Loughry, Wyatt Clayton, Brandon, Hunter and Nicholas Christoff, Madeline and Emilia Leasor and Katelyn Criss; great-great-grandchildren, Cameron, Waylon and Cash, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; grandson, Christopher; great-grandson, Isiah; and her siblings Dennis, Juanita, Thelma, Robert, Barbara, and Carl.
She created a wonderful home, where all were welcomed. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her babies. She was known for sneaking every baby their first sucker.
Along with co-owning a family business and retiring from WVU Towers, for the past 30 plus years she provided a loving and caring home for people with disabilities. Jo Ann was a member of the Message of Christ Tabernacle Church (Maidsville) until its closing. The last church she attended was the National New Life Church of God. She faithfully studied her Bible and taught us all about God’s love.
Jo Ann also cherished close friends, James and Glenda Troy, the Yanaks, the Reardons, Doug DeVall, Lucinda Cost and cousin, Jake.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Dixon and Morgantown Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion Jo Ann and her family received.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, on Thursday, August 16th, from 3 – 7 p.m. and on Friday, August 17th, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. with Pastor William Page officiating. Interment will follow at Zoar Cemetery, Morgantown, WV.
