Obituary of John James Lynch

John James Lynch, 88, of Morgantown passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening August 22, 2018 at J W Ruby Memorial Hospital. His health had been declining for several months.

 

John was born in New York City on September 1, 1929. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Brooklyn, NY until joining the US Army after WWII had ended. Following his military service he studied accounting at the University of Maryland. In 1956 he received his B.S. degree and married Dorothy Bezak, his wife of 62 years. As a CPA, he worked for several of the big accounting firms eventually becoming Partner-in-Charge of Spain and Portugal with Touche Ross (now Deloitte & Touche). In 1983, after more than 20 years overseas he returned to the Washington D.C. area. He left Touche Ross to become the Chief Financial Officer at Fitzgerald Auto Mall until retiring at the age of 85.  He received his Masters in Taxation from American University in 1990 and was an adjunct accounting instructor in the evenings for University of Maryland and Strayer College. In 2016, he and his wife Dorothy moved from Bethesda, MD to Morgantown to live with their oldest son John and daughter-in-law Nancy.

 

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his son, John and his daughter-in-law, Nancy of Morgantown. Also, surviving are his daughter-in-law Christine McDaniel, and son-in-law, Ashley Winston of Arlington, VA. John also leaves behind four grandchildren: Stewart Lynch of San Francisco, Allison Lynch of San Diego, and Zachary Lynch and Jensen Winston of Arlington, VA.

 

John was preceded in death by his youngest son James and his brother James.
