Obituary of Judith Anne Beaven

Please share a memory of Judith Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Judith “Judy” Anne Beavan, 71, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday August 30th after a difficult battle with colon cancer.

Judy was born July 26, 1947 in Paterson, NJ to the late Henry “Andy” Stasiuk and Sue VanPuttenVink.  Judy grew up in Wycoff and graduated in 1965 from Ramapo High School and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University.  She worked as a writer for the Newark Star Ledger (Newark, NJ) and Dominion Post (Morgantown, WV) where she covered the police beat and later wrote the weekly column “Family Matters”.    After leaving the Dominion Post she worked briefly at WVUH.

She loved all things outdoors, skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, gardening, kayaking, the beach and especially whitewater rafting.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the library. She enjoyed baking and sharing recipes with her children.  But most of all she loved the Mountaineers.  She would listen to every football game on the radio in her kitchen and for a few years attended home games with her two daughters and son-in-law.  She never passed up an opportunity to cheer on her Mountaineers.  She longed to see them win a national championship in football, and would often joke, “not in my lifetime.”  She was the definition of a “people person” and could talk to anyone.  Her son-in-law often joked that if you went to the grocery store with Judy it could take all day because she knew everyone. Her laughter and smile will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her three children: Rebecca Galvin (spouse Denis Galvin) of Houston, TX, David Feld (spouse Ada Hamilton) of Brooklyn, NY and Melissa Beavan of Gibsonton, FL; eight grandchildren, in order of ages:  Dominic Smith, Daylin Smith, Erin Galvin, MacKenzie Smith, Shannon Galvin, Armani Smith, Jet Smith and Maxwell Feld; her sister, Anna Lynn Stasick of Morgantown, WV; and brother, Arthur Stasiuk (spouse Nancy Stasiuk) of West Orange, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to offer special Thanks to Janeen Floyd and Helene for their compassion and loving care give to Judy.

In accordance with her wishes, Hastings Funeral Home will be providing cremation services. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Morgantown and announcements will be made.

Donations in her memory can be made to Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, 1 Medical Center Dr., Morgantown, WV 26506 or WV Caring, 3363 University Ave.
Morgantown, WV 26505.
