Obituary of Carolyn Gae Dalton

Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carolyn Gilmore Dalton 87 a lifelong resident of The Kingwood Pike passed away peacefully on September 16 at Sundale Rehabilitation Nursing Home surrounded by her family.  She was born May 29, 1931, to the late Pat and Gertie Gilmore in Morgantown, WV.  She loved school and had a hunger to learn but she loved her siblings more so at the age of sixteen she stopped attending school and went to work at Beaumont Glass to help her family financially. Working long hours in the hot factory was difficult but she did it willingly. Her siblings never forgot the sacrifice she made to help feed and clothe them, often thanking her still every chance they got.

In March 1953 she married the love of her life Gay E Dalton and they raised three children at their home on the Kingwood Pike. She continued to work in various glass factories until she retired in 1974. She and Gay enjoyed working in the Cool Springs VFD and with the Pike 4H Youth Group for many years. After Gay passed away in 1986 she devoted her life to helping care for her Grandchildren. She was the oldest member of her church family of Glorybound Tabernacle on the Kingwood Pike. Carolyn loved to travel and was a bus tour guide with Jenkins Dalton Tours for many years until her health declined.

She is survived by her children who loved and respected her very much. Rick and Darlene Collins Dalton, Brenda and George Hendershot, Mark and Monica Murray Dalton, her grandchildren Nikki and Will Livengood, Shane and Wendy Hendershot, Andrew and Carmen Dalton, Heather and Esseddik Bennabou and Eric Dalton, great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and her pride and joy, Tucker Livengood, Brody and Gage Hendershot, Hannah and Bentley Dalton, Ikram, Sumiya, Oumaymah and Ayoub Bennabou, her sisters and best friends Norma Stimmell and Martha Bill Hart, brothers Lonnie Woody, Ronnie (Connie) Gilmore and George (Linda) Gilmore, loving brother-in-law Date Stimmell, Cousin Jane Thorne, a special friend and caregiver Betty Grazulis, many loving nieces and nephews, her church family especially Bud and Elma Fawley. She was also preceded in death by her baby brother Vernard Gilmore Jr, brother-in-law Lester Hart and nephew Patrick Charlie Hart. There are no words to express how thankful we are to our Sundale family. We wish to thank each of you for your loving and compassionate care shown Mom and your thoughtfulness to our family especially in those final days. Our precious Mother left a legacy of love and friendship to everyone she touched. Also, many thanks to Alice and WV Caring.

Friends will be received at Glorybound Tabernacle on The Kingwood Pike from 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 18th  thru Wednesday, September 19th at the time of the 1 PM funeral with Pastor Norma Stimmell and Pastor Gwen McKinley officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
