Obituary of Erwin Stanley Goldsmith
Erwin Stanley Goldsmith, 91, of Morgantown, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 surrounded by the family he adored. He was born in Morgantown on March 21, 1927, to the late Harry "Has Em" and Ada Seigal Goldsmith.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. After discharge from the military, he attended WVU.
He and his father, Harry "Has Em" shared a business, Goldsmith and Son, and clothed many young athletes at WVU starting their careers as well as many local professionals. He had impeccable taste, paid attention to detail, and could make anyone look good. In his own words, he was "one of the last great clothing men".
Survivors include his four daughters, Leslie, Meltzer (Allan) of Houston, TX, Beth Magnone (Joe) of Haymarket, VA, Alicia Murray (Randy) of Morgantown and Amy Elliott (Don) of Core; four grandchildren, Rebecca Magnone of Washington, DC, Tyler Elliott of Waynesburg, PA, Tova Pirlo of Morgantown and Hannah Elliott of Morgantown. Also surviving are two beloved great-grandchildren, Jacob Pirlo of Morgantown and Everly Elliott of Daybrook.
In addition to his parents, Erwin was preceded in death by his son, Hugh David Goldsmith and his sister, Betty Pariser.
Family and friends are welcome to share memories and celebrate Erwin's life at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Thursday, November 29th from 4-8 PM and on Friday, November 30th from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM with Rabbi Joseph Hample officiating.
