I worked side-by-side with Dr. McDowell at WVUH as a scrub nurse and later as an RN. He would always come to his operating room early and sit on a rolling chair while I would be setting up the sterile field for an upcoming surgery in vascular. We would chat and I got to know him on a somewhat personal level. I respected him and his great talents as a surgeon. I don’t recall anyone else just having a conversation with him other than something surgically related and for that I will always remember him. He traveled abroad and brought me a set of coasters. I was so surprised and so grateful that he was thinking of me. I think of Dr. McDowell often and wish him eternal love and peace. My condolences to his family.

Dear Amada and family,
We know these are difficult times for all of you, we pray that the Lord gives you the strength to cope with these sad moments. Don was an extraordinary husband, parent and friend and will be remembered as such. His desire to serve and help others never went unnoticed; as a physician he helped many people regain their health and as a friend his advice was always very valuable and wise. In his house and at work, through his deeds, he was a living testimony of how a Christian life is to be lived. His Christian convictions to serve the Lord were part of his daily actions, and all of his good actions followed his beliefs. May the Lord grant you comfort, serenity and peace.
Love,
Marcela and Luis

Dear Amada ~
I am sorry that you have last your husband, and that your girls, and their siblings have lost their father. May God comfort you ALL in this loss!
What a wonderful man he was! Matthew considers him the most wonderful role model, and is very blessed to have him as a father in law! What a beautiful legacy he left for you all, and to all those that knew him. Such an accomplished life! It brings great glory to the God who created him!
I really appreciated seeing the physicians bag on the site, and wanted to share with you that our mutual grandchildren, Eisley, and Isaiah, ALWAYS get the play doctor bag out from the toys and pretend to give a check up with the stethoscope, and blood pressure pump etc. Every time! Even though I have lots of toys, that is something they always do. They never get tired of it ~ must be in their blood! :)
May God bless you ALL with his grace and peace!
In Christ ~
