My sincere condolences to the family. I am very sorry to hear that Steve passed away. I was his supervisor when I was serving as the chief of Surveillance Section in the Division of Respiratory Disease, NIOSH from 1993 for over 10 years. Steve was an excellent staff in my Section. I retired from NIOSH in 2014 and am currently teaching as professor of epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. My prayers are with the family.

I graduated EWHS with Steven and went to UNC as well. I lost touch with him after a few years but know that he was a wonderful, caring person. I’m sure he went on to become a terrific husband and father. He had a calm, relaxed demeanor even in HS. I’m sorry for your loss and sending healing thoughts and prayers to family and friends
