Obituary of Gloria Dawn Felton

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gloria Dawn (Phillips) Felton of Westover, formerly of 1st Ward in Morgantown, passed away May 25, 2019, at Madison Center with her son at her side. She was born March 16, 1930, to James and Ema Phillips of Morgantown, WV.  Gloria worked for WVU as a secretary in the Forestry Department for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel, her parents, brother George (killed in WWII), brother Robert and wife Margie of Clarksburg, Sister Betty and husband Blair Messenger of Morgantown, and grandson Jason Felton of Salt Lake.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Felton and son Bruce (Deborah) Felton of Morgantown; seven grandchildren: Jacob, Sarah, Caleb, Isaac, and Luke, all from Western states.  Brooke (Howard) Mearns and Bryan Felton, both of Morgantown; great-granddaughter, Neva Dawn Mearns, and caregiver and friend Jean.

Gloria enjoyed the out of doors and traveling.  She liked to hike, camp, and work in her yard and garden.  She was an excellent seamstress, always making clothes, costumes, and uniforms for her children.  She made several quilts, making sure everyone in the family had at least one or two.  She also crocheted and knitted.  As her hands got to where she couldn’t use them, she took up reading.  She enjoyed Christian fiction novels.

Gloria attended Spruce Street United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.  She also started the first 4-H club in the Riverside Westover area and was a Brownie troop leader.

Gloria and her husband also delivered meals on wheels for several years.

Visitation will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV on Tuesday, May 28, from 2:00-4:00 pm and again from 7:00-9:00 pm.  Visitation will continue Wednesday, May 29, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am with Chaplain Craig Falkenstine officiating.
