Ray lived with energy and enthusiasm. The breadth of his interests and the depth of his expertise were amazing. Ray generously shared his time and talents to make a real difference in the communities to which he belonged. From spending countless hours making improvements to our high school baseball field, to volunteering for many summers to help low income families with needed home repairs on HOPE, Ray put his faith into action. May his generous spirit endure, especially through the love he shared with Christy, Colton, and Brody. May he rest in the light and love of Christ’s peace.

Ray was both the salt and spice of this earth. Not many of us will be leave such a memorable legacy to the lives of so many. He was a dear friend both in Pittsburgh and in WV. He was larger than life to make a difference in so many lives. He was a fighter and a lover. May God bless his memories and hold up his family to continue his legacy for generations to come

Ray was a great friend, cohort and highly competent crew leader for the Charleston Catholic HOPE project helping disadvantaged homeowners improve their living conditions. His enthusiasm for interesting discussions about food, hunting and cooking for large groups was unbounded. His recipes for rubs for meat were a wonderful commentary for his passion for the best way to make you smile at the dinner table. He will be greatly missed by all, Our sincerest condolences.

Ray was friend from the oil patch to the tree stand. He was a man of integrity. A man who would share his love for fishing, his love for hunting, his love for cooking. But above all his love of family. With me he shared his son. He allowed me to mentor his son in the woods. And for that I say thank you Ray. You have given us all memories that we share for a lifetime. Thank you my friend. Rest In Peace. RW

Chrissy,
Please accept my deepest condolences. Ray was an exceptional man and all that knew him were blessed to share time, discussion, stories with him. His integrity was unequaled and working with him was a pleasure.
There is nothing at all good or fair about cancer nor your loss of Ray. As time passes, you may not hear from some as often, but time does ease the pain and help you heal slowly.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you make your way through this very hard time.
With Kindest regards,
Ellen Montgomery

May God's grace and love surround Ray and his family during this difficult time. We met in the classroom at WVU. Ray was a intelligent, articulate, and vibrant scholar in the petroleum field. He always had a smile, a firm handshake, and a positive attitude. He loved a taut fishing line exploring new streams. You will be missed my dear friend.
Rest in peace-Scott Chapman

Dear Christy, Colton & Brody,
We were so saddened to learn of Ray’s passing. I regret that I lost contact with him the last few years. I can honestly say that he was one of the finest guys I’ve ever met. I respected him for his integrity and for being a superb and loving husband and father. And I enjoyed being around him because of his love of sports and his great sense of humor. Those summers we spent together coaching Cody and Luca were a blast.
Oh, how he loved each of you! And he was a contented man because of your love for him. I hate cancer; it killed my sister when she was 59. I know this is hard and life will never be the same without him, but Ray would most certainly want each of you to live life to the fullest and love life like he did and be filled in time with peace and joy. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Tim & Cheryl DiPiero & Family
P.S. I’m sorry I can’t make it to Morgantown this Saturday. I leave for Finland tomorrow or otherwise I would be there.

My deepest condolences to the family. Ray was the highest integrity and “present” friends I’ve ever met. We started our friendship in 2004 while he was my boss and since then he’s been a mentor personally and professionally which has positively affected my life on multiple fronts. I’m going to miss him and I’ll be remembering Ray in life and in love for the rest of my life. Lastly, what a fighter!

The song says "only the good die young" well this is one of the Best of the Best!!
I think Ray will be scouting one of the best fishing holes in heaven and will be waiting to take guided tours when new arrivals reach the pearly gates. Ray is just as his name states, a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day and will be missed by many but remembered by all who knew and appreciated his candor. His legacy will be carried on by his two sons because he instilled in them the same qualities by which he lived, and worked and love for family. My condolences to Christie and her sons.

I am so sorry for your loss of Ray. I’ve known Ray for over 20 years. I met him working in the gas patch and immediately had a connection. I traded my homemade hot sauce for his spices and we talked for hours about hunting and fishing. What a fantastic and humble guy. I’ll miss our lunches and catching up on adventures. God speed my brother and Rest In Peace.
