Obituary of Martha June Chisler
Martha June (Shaffer) Chisler, 88, passed away on October 27, 2019, at Bellaire at Stone Port in Harrisonburg, VA.
Martha was born in Morgantown, WV to Walter A. and Nellie M. Shaffer on August 24, 1931. She graduated from Morgantown High School in 1949 and married George Lewis Chisler on September 2, 1950.
Martha worked in loving support of her husband, George, as a military wife from 1950 through his retirement in 1968 as well as caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her hobbies of gardening, bowling, sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Martha loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was a lifelong believer in good health and exercise and served as president of TOPS when she lived in Brookhaven.
Martha is survived by her sisters, Betty Shaffer Canfield of San Diego, CA; Bonnie Shaffer Smith of Fairmont, WV, her sister-in-law, Ilene Shaffer of Morgantown, WV; her son, Bradford Chisler and wife, Christi, of Pasadena, CA; daughter, Marcia Chisler Mumbert and husband, Mark, of Harrisonburg, VA; granddaughter, Alexi Chisler of Los Angeles, CA; 3 grandsons, Benjamin Chisler, his wife, daughter and son of Highlands Ranch, CO; Ryan Shahan, his wife and daughter of Eagle River, AK; and Garrett Shahan, his wife and 2 daughters of Sarasota, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Chisler; brother, Gordon Donald Shaffer; brothers-in-law David Canfield and David Smith; and nephew David Smith, Jr.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation services were provided by Kyger
Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA. She will be buried in Pleasant Hills Cemetery
on South Pierpont Road in Morgantown, WV.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce
St., Morgantown, on Saturday, November 16th from 2 PM until the time of the
memorial service at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dementia Society, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Bellaire at Stone Port for the wonderful care they provided for Martha.
