I only made one C in my entire academic career and it was in Chemistry with Dr. Smith as a junior at Morgantown High School. Suprisingly, at the conclusion of the class, Dr. Smith approached me about becoming a lab assistant. Imagine my surprise! But I didn't ask any questions and accepted and fulfilled the role during my senior year, with praise from him along the way. He saw valuable things in me that I'm not sure I saw in myself--among them diligence, responsibility, and attention to detail. All these traits have served me well during my life, and I guess they were in there all along, but it was Dr. Smith who helped me recognize them. And for that I will always remember him with great respect and admiration. Because it certainly wasn't my ability in Chemistry!

Here's an image shared with Don & me back in the days when he and his great friends would go winter camping. We're all going to miss Norton and we're thinking of you all, Janet, Steven, and family of friends.
