Dear Carra and Troy, I was so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a dear colleague that I could talk to about anything. Loved to hear her laugh. I will miss hearing her call out "Hottski" whenever we met. I know she loved both of you dearly. Greg Hott

Gosh Laverne, I hear you have been sick for a long time and I didn’t know.
You were so important to me at the new Elkins High School. So many of us would come to the library and congregate in your office to laugh and complain about the latest assault on our “professional rights.. I will always think of you with your beautiful laugh and instant response to any one who needed help with a personal problem or school ones. Your office was like the teacher’s counseling center. You were the first to hear of my first grandchild and my transfer to the theater.
I still laugh at our fascination with the O.J trial and spending our free time in the AV room watching the trial — always sure that he was innocent and screaming for joy when they said not guilty.
And wonderful times at our pot luck lunches with our little group of eaters-MaryAnne, and Jean and Pat and anyone else who wanted to join.
For a long time, you were the only one of so many of us to know how to use a computer. Thank heavens you were there to guide us into the tech world. Most of us complaining all the way.
You were such a friend to so many and I thank you for that. It wasn’t easy mothering all those competing personalities and jealousies. You were certainly a friend to me and there just aren’t words to express how much you impacted my life and career.
Your children and friends will miss you.

I have so many fond memories of Laverne, it's impossible to pick a favorite. I will say she was my absolute favorite teacher, and she was among those who inspired me to be an educator myself. She taught so well, and she embedded a deep love of language and all its intricacies in my intellect. I love what I do, and it is due, in part, to her influence and inspiration. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. I want to express deep condolences to her family and wish a hope that time will bind the wounds of your loss and bring you peace. Laverne was a great lady.

Dear Carra, Troy, and families, I was so sorry to hear about Laverne. We worked together at EHS. She was a fun, caring individual who always made it interesting. She had a great sense of humor and brought much laughter to the halls and workroom. She was greatly missed when she retired but we were all happy for her to be moving on to something new. My sincere condolences for your loss, as well as my thoughts and prayers, Tina Mahoney-Hinrichs

I certainly recall this fine lady, as Laverne Higgins, way back in those days while serving on the Randolph County School Board. I am very sorry. My condolences to the families.
