So sorry to hear that Marty had passed. I met Marty at Virginia Tech. We both were pledge brothers together in 1966 at then Sigma Omega Tau (now Lambda Chi Alpha). That experience brought us very close. We then participated for several years in the SOT activities. Soon after graduation we both ended up in Vietnam and kind of lost contact. One story I cannot ever forget. One of our brothers, Louis Brooking was getting married. I grew up on a farm in Centreville, Va. and somehow talked my parents into letting us have a bachelor party for Louis at our house. Marty was one of the attendee’s. There was a lot of drinking and partying until early morning and everyone ended up sleeping wherever they could, yard, floor, couches, etc. The next morning early my mother woke up and went into her bathroom. She heard a noise and looked into the bathtub and there slept Marty Baker. She died in 2020 at age 101 but remembered that event and Marty’s name all her life.
Rest in peace, Marty. Sigma Beta. John DeBell

I was very saddened to see that Marty had passed. I remember him as a really good natured laughing kind o guy. My best memory of Marty was our duck hunt adventure when we were searched by the game warden and ticketed for having a minor tear in a life jacket and operating a motored canoe without a boat registration. We went to court together and the case was thrown out. Thank goodness we did kill a few ducks that day. My sincere condolences to the surviving family.

Dear D.J., Donna, and Sharon,
When I saw Marty's obituary, I was saddened for each of you and his family.
Just seeing his name sent me back to the past.
I've thought of you often over the years. NO JOKE!
I have such wonderful and lasting memories of us.
Just remember, I'm holding you close to my heart, remembering you always, and still here.
All my love,
Robin

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Marty, my condolences go out to his family. Marty hired me as a supervisor at WVU in 1985, my very first job as a supervisor. I was somewhat inexperienced in the position at the time and had a lot to learn under Marty's direction and mentor-ship. He taught me a great deal about attention to detail, keeping an open door policy, diversity, cultural differences and treating employees with respect and courtesy. Although we didn't always agree on everything, he taught me many valuable lessons that I carried with me throughout the 38 years I worked at WVU. I will be eternally grateful to Marty for giving me that first opportunity as a supervisor and for taking the time to work through some of the problems that arose that we had to deal with. Because of him, I had the opportunity and a chance to serve WVU in a respectable fashion for many years.
Sincerely
Steve Bodkins
