My heartfelt condolences go out to Doris’ family and friends. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. She was the matriarch and glue for her family. I worked with Doris for over 20 years at WVU and have so many wonderful memories of her beautiful smile, her amazing sense of humor, her sassiness, her indelible zest for life! She was fearless and unafraid! She adored her family above all, and her eyes would light up whenever she spoke of you. May you find peace in the beautiful memories she left you. She will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. She touched so many people. I’m so glad I knew her. God bless you.

My sincere heartfelt condolences. She was such a wonderful woman and could light up a room with her smile. I had the privilege of talking and laughing with her at the Christmas Concert at Suncrest United Methodist Church. Rest in Peace. I will certainly keep the family in my prayers.

Doris took a chance on me in the 90s as both an intern and eventually a WVUH employee. She had a wonderful ability to see "something" in people and to cultivate and grow that something. She taught me to embrace being myself and she taught me to use my voice for the good of others and she taught me to see others in all their glory despite their current circumstances.
She was a forever example of grace, kindness and CHUTZPAH. I eventually left WVUH furthering my Social Work career in the USAF but I reached back to remind her that the flame she fanned was a full burning fire and thanks to her I would continue to do good things.
Heaven gained an incredible angel and although the world may seem a bit more dim without her in it--the reality is --she lit many flames while she was here and this world continues to exude LIGHT because of her legacy. Until VALHALLA....

My thoughts and prayers are with Doris's family. If you knew Doris; you knew that she cherished her family! I was blessed to work with her at the WVU Division of Social Work. It was such a joy to work in her presence. I will never forget the warmth her smile brought to the office each and every day. She brought such light into the lives around her. She had an uncanny ability to know if someone was going through something and just needed someone to talk to. She was truly an incredible person and her loss is felt deeply. May the memories of her wonderful personality and her many great accomplishments be celebrated by all that knew her. She will live on in our hearts and memories forever.

How do you summarize adequately, a wonderful 45 year relationship with this awesome woman who has meant so MUCH to
me over those years...?! It all started in the 70's when we worked and went to school together and it remained a solid
friendship and kinship until a couple days before her sudden passing. I have wonderful memories of our lives intertwined
with raising children and careers and a lot of fun times that will sustain me in those many moments when I am reminded that
she is gone. The tears I will shed will remind me that she is that person/memory I will forever cherise.
I am ESPECIALLY PROUD that I introduced Doris to the awesome, passionately caring individual that became her husband...
Bobby Nicholas - 42 years + I pray for this family to maintain together, the strength, love and peace that would make
Doris proud.
Sharon Richman
(My husband, Jack, also shares much love for this family...he has gotten to know/ love them for 20 +years).

What a great photo!! It's perfect!! I have nothing but fond memories of my second mother (as she was to so many) Doris. I met her when she began working with my mother when I was in the 5th grade -- although it felt like I had known her forever. My brothers and I could always count on her to provide us with firm but loving direction. She stood for honesty, truth, respect, compassion, but mostly love--traits our world could use more of today..... If you were in her presence, you could feel these traits oozing from her being. I will thank God upon my every memory of her. We are all Blessed for knowing her and the world is a better place because of her. I will always be grateful for the beautiful friendship that she unselfishly gave my mother all of these years.
Alan, Bobby and kids, you have been Highly Blessed -- beyond our ability to understand--for intimately knowing this beautiful wife, mother and friend. May God Bless, Comfort and Hold you in the Palm of His Hand during this difficult time. She will always be in our hearts. I love you Doris Nicholas!! I know you will keep shining down on us all!!!
Love Always,
Tom Dennison (better known as Sharon's son Tommy)

Doris was a wonderful friend who could fill a room with laughter and intelligent conversation. You were drawn to her due to her kindness and her beauty. She was the type of friend that you hadn’t seen in a good while but it felt like you just saw her yesterday and you could talk forever when you met. We are so very sorry that she has been taken from her family so soon. You have our sympathy and friendship.
