Daniel W. McNeil, President, Mountaineer Area Council posted a condolence

On behalf of Mountaineer Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), which serves 12 counties in north central West Virginia, we note with sadness the passing of Mr. George Farmer. He was one of our "Distinguished Citizens" and always an ardent supporter of serving and helping youth through Scouting. In his life, he embodied the principles of our Scout Oath and Law. In particular, we are so grateful for his "Loyalty" to his country through his military service, to his community, and to the BSA's Camp Mountaineer.

After being hired as Mr. Farmer's secretary, on one of my first trips to the Court House I was told by an employee there that "In regard to Mr. Farmer, there are two types of people who work here: One type will leap over tall counters to assist him; the other type will hide under their desks until he leaves." I worked for Mr. Farmer for 15 years and despite his "reputation" I found him to be the most considerate, supportive, fair, respectful, generous gentleman I ever worked for. It was truly an honor to work for him and, through the years following, being a friend. My deepest condolences to Mary Ann and his family in their loss of a true Morgantown icon. They can stand proud in his shadow.

Mr Farmer was a honorable gentleman. A wonderful lawyer, great father, community leader that I had privilege to meet several times in my career as a police officer. My condolences to the family.
