Obituary of Dr. Robert Ted Conner

Dr. Robert Ted Conner, 85, passed away at home on Thursday, February 18, 2021. He was born in Moundsville, WV, on February 21, 1935, son of the late Troy B. and Ethel Barbour Conner. Ted was raised in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School in 1952. He attended and graduated from WVU in 1955 where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He went on to graduate from Baltimore College of Dental Surgery/University of Maryland, Baltimore in 1959. Dr. Conner then enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a Dental Officer. He was honorably discharged as rank of Captain in 1961. Later that same year, he opened a family dental practice in Grafton, WV, and then a second in Morgantown that he successfully operated until 2000. While in Grafton, he was head of the Republican Party of Taylor County and a member of both the Rotary and Lions Clubs. He served on the Morgantown Planning Commission for 20 years as a member and as president. He was a member of the ADA and active in numerous other civil and social organizations and clubs. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Victoria Petitte Conner. Also surviving are special niece and nephew, Kathleen “Kit” Conner and Tim (Tammy) Conner, who offered special support and great nephew, Michael Conner of Morgantown. Other nieces and nephews include Troy III, Bobby, Kim and David Conner; great niece, Molly Conner and great nephew, Wil Conner. In addition to his parents, Ted is preceded in death by brothers Troy B. Conner II (Betty) and Dexter (Jean) Conner and nephews, Kyle and Dexter Conner. His love of the Italian culture inspired him to learn to speak fluent Italian. Throughout their travels to Italy, he and Victoria created many lifelong friendships. He also had a great interest in reading, the fine arts and antique cars. Victoria would like to thank all those who offered care and assistance to Ted over the last few years to include Charles and Sandy Guseman, Emelio Petitte, Laura and Jennifer Protzman, Sarah Chipps, Todd and Morgan Petitte, Heather Fielding, the owners and staff at the Forks of Cheat Winery and Craig Fox. Also, a special thanks to the staff at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital 9W, Dr. Monique Leyes and her staff at the WVU Eye Institute and the Mary Babb Cancer Center. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, February 24th from 4-7 PM with a military flag folding service to take place to conclude the evening visitation. In accordance with CDC pandemic guidelines, all visitors are to wear face masks and practice social distancing. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Lawnwood Cemetery with full military rites. Online condolences may be made at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
