I was a student of Dr. Klishis in the Safety Management Program from 1999-2001. I also worked with him on a professional basis with projects at the National Research Center for Coal & Energy. So sorry that I didn't see this earlier nor knew of his sickness. My thoughts and prayers are with Leslie and his family! God bless y'all!

I have known Mike for 21 years since moving to Morgantown. Mike has always been friendly, outgoing and caring. I enjoyed talking with him and found he cared deeply for his students. He was always energetic and forward looking. He will be missed but remembered.

I love you all! Thank you for the remembrances of Michael and the fun that we shared. My favorite mind's eye picture involves us sitting in a car while listening to some one in the back seat sharing all kinds of comments about a run while Mike held a poster that said something about my actually paying to do this!! Those are the memories that bring tears of joy about the love of my life.

I've been a little slower than normal this past year getting around to reading the Sunday newspaper -- partly due to the pandemic but mostly to my laziness. For these reasons, I just read yesterday (Thursday) about Mike's death. Belated as they are, please know my deepest sympathies are with you and your family, Although I didn't know Mike well, whenever I met him on the street, at the library, or at a basketball game, he impressed me as being a soft-spoken, kind and gentle person -- someone who'll be greatly missed. In the difficult times ahead, Lesley, I hope family, good friends and good books bring much solace and comfort.

Mike was an instructor of mine in the Safety Management program. Simply, Mike was a kind, patient and decent man. His office was a labyrinth of paperwork and folders. A sight to behold for sure! May ‘time’ afford you with peace and perspective.

I worked with Mike for many years and while the obit is correct about his tardiness and, well, his desk, he also had some real talents. He loved being with his students, and he never missed class even when he wasn't feeling quite up to par. Further, he was not self-absorbed like a lot of academics, and he did not complain-- ever-- when his health turned bad. He sucked it up and went on. Some of us could learn from that. We'll all miss Mike.
