Robert George Olexa Born 1937 - Died 2021 Robert George Olexa, age 83, of Morgantown WV, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021. He was born November 29, 1937, in Morgantown, the son of late George Olexa Jr. and Mary (Musick) Olexa. “Bobbie” as he was known growing up, served proudly in the United States Air Force for 22 years, with tours of duty in Europe, Far East, and United States. He was a Catholic by faith and grew up in Morgantown and attended area schools. In his younger years, he was an avid athlete and sports enthusiast. Bobbie’s happiest days were spent fishing the beaches and inlets of South Carolina. He taught his love of surf fishing to his sons. He loved the ocean and enjoyed spending time walking the beach looking for sharks’ teeth with his sons. While many consider him a simple man, he distinguishably served his country as a United States Air Force Supply Manager. He knew how to make some mean cabbage rolls which took patience following the cooking steps that resulted in a delicious meal. He said that his secret was making sure the cabbage was blanched just to the point that you could bend the spine without breaking them, lining the top and bottom with cabbage leaves along with the special ingredient - Kielbasa sausage. He knew how to make you laugh as he told his stories; some to the point, while others were slightly exaggerated, his laughter was infectious. After achieving his dream of retiring from the United States Air Force, he changed his mission in life to become an expert painter to ensure the transformation of people’s dream homes. The memories of his sister MaryAnn told of how she and Bobbie were very close. When they were growing up everyone said that she was like a mother to him. When they became teenagers, they looked out after one another. “Bobbie always liked to fry potatoes. He always made sure I had some. He was very caring. Bobbie was in my wedding and I enjoyed seeing him smile. We both got to enjoy the military life. I wouldn't see him for years, but when we did it was wonderful. I will always love my little brother Bobbie.” His tag line was “Gone Fishing”. He is survived by his two sons: Thomas Olexa and Anthony Olexa (Florida), along with his sister Maryann Jackson (Florida). He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
