Obituary of Hunter Wyatt Mathess

Hunter Wyatt Mathess, 17, of Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on December 24, 2003, in Charleston, WV, son of Julie (Miller) Mathess and the late Daniel Douglas Mathess. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and attended Calvary Chapel Morgantown. Hunter enjoyed studying the Bible, hunting, fishing, robotics, chess, wood carving and baking. In addition to his mother, Julie, he is survived by his brother, Cole Mathess; grandfather, Randy Miller; aunts and uncles Lorrie and Ben Young, Kara and Chad Marsh, Becki and Travis Dye; cousins Caleb, Jack and Claire Young, Ella and Emily Marsh, Jewell and Zane Dye. Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. There will be an outdoor funeral service at Calvary Chapel, 493 Tyrone Rd., Morgantown, on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 beginning at 1 p.m. A committal service for family and close friends will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont with Pastor Shawn Frasher officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made in Hunter’s memory to Holy Pursuit’s Dream Foundation, 943 Blackberry Hill, Rowlesburg, WV 26425 and/or donations may be made in his memory at https://www.givingcompassion.care/ to offset funeral expenses.
