The world is a sad place with you gone. You brought much joy and richness to my life. I chuckle that I was such a vexing little sister always trailing behind. Loved you very much. I guess we have come face to face with our mortality. Hope to see you in the resurrection; since I am still trailing behind.

Today I was reminiscing on my time at WVU during my undergrad and all of the fun I had there. One of my greatest experiences was taking Professor Allen's cultural studies course. Undergrad opened my eyes to a lot that I was ignorant to but Dennis's class specifically was one of the most enlightening and wonderful experiences or classes I ever had. It saddens me to know that he is no longer with us but I am truly honored to have been able to have met Dennis and was able to enjoy the light he brought to all his students. Here's to Dennis, I hope you're enjoying a diet coke up in the sky

My condolences to Dr. Allen's family. He was such a mentor and inspiration to me. He helped me both academically, professionally, spiritually, and socially. He lived for the university, the students, and his friends and loved ones. I was lucky to have known him and to have been his student. His guidance and support helped me to complete my Master's degree and also to get my first academic job.

My condolences to Dennis's family. I was one of his students in the later 1990s and found him to be an inspiring teacher who support not only myself but many of my colleagues throughout our studies and navigating life post-adolescence. I will forever be appreciative to him for his recommendation that enabled me to commence my master's studies. He will be missed.

Many thanks to the writer of this lovely obituary. Dennis was truly a gifted teacher--I've never run into a student, undergrad or graduate, who didn't love his theory courses, and who didn't say that he made theory not only understandable but fun. That is no mean feat. May his legacy inspire all of us.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dr. Allen was one of my favorite English instructors when I was working on my degree at West Virginia University. I'm sure I speak for many when I say he'll be sorely missed.
