Obituary of Nancy Lynn Weidman
Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy Lynn Weidman (Dailer), 60, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 24th, 2022, following a six-year battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Nancy was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on June 17th, 1961, one of seven children. After graduating from West Liberty State College with a degree in elementary education, she began her teaching career in Wheeling. In 1986, she married Patrick, also of Wheeling, and the two moved to Columbus, Ohio. It was in Columbus that she began raising her own family.
In 1992, they moved to Morgantown. Throughout the following years, Nancy taught or substituted at Mountainview Elementary and South Middle School while she also raised her children. In 2010, Nancy decided to go back to school and earned her Master’s degree in Reading from West Virginia University, and soon after became a reading interventionist at South Middle School. As an interventionist, she worked extensively with students who needed extra help with literacy and reading comprehension. Nancy had a gift for helping those students who needed extra care, attention, and patience. Because of this, she also worked as a mathematics interventionist. Although she claimed she was never good at math as a child, she loved teaching it, and would proudly proclaim “Math is my business.”
Nancy loved every child she taught and remembered them all, long after they had grown up and moved on. She treated them with care, respect, and understanding, and spoke to them as equals. She lived to help her children, both her students and her own. Outside of teaching Nancy loved to run, which she did regularly for decades. She also enjoyed swimming and reading outside by the pool, and taking her dog, Charlie, on their daily walks.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, James Herman “Dubie” Dailer and Joan Lee Dailer (née Morgan); her beloved dog, Charlie, and her no less beloved cat, Milky. She is survived by her husband, Patrick; her daughter, Jennifer; her three sons, Elias, Alexander, and Ross; her brothers, Jim, David, and Kevin; her sisters, Christine, Ann, and Jennifer; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many more nieces and nephews. Her children will carry her in their hearts forever and remember her as the greatest mother ever.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses in Infusion Services at the WVU Cancer Institute, and the nurses on the 10th and 7th floors of Ruby Memorial Hospital. In addition, we would like give a special thank-you to the caregivers from WVU Home Healthcare and WVU Hospice for their compassion and care.
Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and in accordance with her wishes Nancy will be cremated, and a private ceremony will be held for family and close friends at a later date.
Because she loved and cared for all her school children, she asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Pantry Plus More, 9 Rousch Drive, Westover, WV 26501. This is a non-profit organization that helps provide nutrition, hygiene and supplies to school children and families in need.
