My condolences to Paul's family. I worked for numerous years at WVU with Paul as a maintenance mechanic, and then as a manager. He was always resourceful, skilled, dedicated, kind, and easy to work with. He primarily worked the midnight shift and was always out there by himself taking care of those emergencies that happened during the wee hours of the morning. He had to be a jack of all trades and be capable of fixing electrical, plumbing, steam, fire alarm, elevator, roofing, and lock problems, and/or any other concern that may come up during his shift. We could always depend on him to get the job done, whatever it was, in a professional and timely manner. Paul will be missed because he was a good, kind person that never seemed to lose his temper or say anything out of character in those tough situations.

It was the Blizzard of '96. Douglas and Nick came up to the garage to clear the snow. Of course he brought the Bobcat! Nick with a bad knee, hobbled around in ~3' of snow. Douglas asked me to keep Nick inside the building(that did not work too well).
After clearing the snow, Douglas with a smile and excitement, said, 'Let's go, we'll pull some cars out of ditches!'. I pretended to be excited, but was really scared. We grabbed some chains and headed up the Mileground, pulled out a couple cars and a truck. My fear was gone! Then he said 'We need to head up to John Cross's place to clear his driveway'. I had no fear now, after all Douglas was with me. We cleared the driveway using the truck(first ramming the snow, which did not work) and bobcat. When done we towed the bobcat back to the house, on ice covered roads. Said our prayers all the way back.
I knew then, as long as Douglas was at my side, we could do anything!
Sometimes, however we chose to 'goof off'.

I knew Paul from my years working for the WVU Housing and Residence Life Department. Paul was always a kind and easy going man. I know he worked mostly night shift but I would see him at shift change, sometimes in the afternoon and again the next morning. He had lots of stories to share and was well liked by everyone on the maintenance crew. I am sorry for your loss. Comfort and prayers, Carrie Dodson
