Obituary of Loren Harry Stump

Loren Harry Stump, 80, of Brookhaven, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 18, 1941, the son of the late Norman and Estella Stump in Stumptown, WV. Loren was cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 77, baseball coach for Horton Ford, basketball coach for Sabraton Bears, member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Monongalia Lodge #10 and a proud veteran of the Air Force. He worked as a coal miner at Peabody Eastern Coal Company and was a member of Brookhaven United Methodist Church for over 30 years. His favorite pastime was playing golf and playing with his nieces, nephews and neighborhood children. The family would like to thank their church family and neighborhood friends for their love during Loren’s illness. Also, they wanted to give a special thank you to Ruby Memorial Hospital’s 8th floor staff, hospice unit, and the care givers who came to the house. Loren is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Inez Riffle Stump; AB his cat; three brothers, Milton, Bernard, and Richard (Bonnie) Stump; brothers-in-law, Bill, Jack (Sandy), Ed (Mary) Riffle; many nieces, nephews and their families along with great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by his brothers, Odell, Norman, Jr., Thomas, Isaac, Terry, and sisters, Bertha Petrucci, Jean Kelly and Lucille York. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 4 – 7 p.m., and on Sunday, February 13, 2022, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Dee Jay Utt as lay servant. Following the funeral services, Hastings Funeral Home Omega Crematory will be entrusted with cremation.
