I had the good fortune to be in Betty's freshman calculus class in 1975 and later taught alongside her in the WVU Math Department. She was a role model, a kind friend, and an unforgettable professor. I was sad to read of her passing but very grateful that I knew her. My deepest sympathy to all of her family. Barbara Tarka Leonard Young BSME, MSME, EdD WVU.

Our condolences to the family on this occasion and my personal apologies for having misread the obituary missing today's service. I went instead to the Spruce Street Methodist Church, not the funeral home, I knew Betty through our shared service at WVU for many years. She was a wonderful, constant, and positive presence, both in the Department of Mathematics and in her administrative service at Stewart Hall. She was a gifted teacher, one committed to her students and their success. Because I knew Betty, she volunteered to help tutor our younger daughter, Kristin, when she was studying calculus in college. The two bonded immediately, and they would develop further common interests when Kristin became president of her ADPi chapter at the University of North Carolina. Never, when my path might cross with Betty, did she failed to ask about Kristin, and, of course, her sorority activities. A loving, caring, giving person, Betty was a positive presence wherever she found herself. The world has lost an exemplary citizen, WVU an outstanding faculty member and official, and a whole lot of folks everywhere a very good friend.

Please accept my deepest condolences.
I grew very fond of Betty while working at the retirement community where she once lived.
You were blessed to have her in your lives for so many years.
Love and prayers! Vicki

She was an outstanding calculus teacher. I had her for two semesters and my friends and I always joked that if you wanted the best teacher in the math department you had to be willing to get up early because she always taught the 8 am session which met four times/week (MTThF). So many fond memories of her, including many years later when she worked with the faculty senate and I was elected as a new senator. She remembered me all those years later and helped me get oriented to these new responsibilities. What an amazing legacy.
