I join with Margaret and Sandy in sending my sincere condolences to Toby’s family at this very sad time.
Toby, to me, will always remain in my memory and my heart as a very feisty lady, very talented, yet full of fun and adventurous too.
Life with her at college was never boring. She and I were partners in the gym and we had such fun planning and executing our not always brilliant ideas. Happy memories altogether!
You were such an alive person, Toby. I’ll miss you. I’m so glad we all caught up with you, thanks to Lilian, if only for a few years.
Irene Harlington, Ludlow, England.

In 1965 Eileen Torbet, graduated with worthy excellence from the Dunfermline College of Physical Education (DCPE) in Aberdeen. Toby, as she was known to us at DCPE, was a first-class gymnast, talented games player and an exceptional all-round sports person.
She was a fun-loving, amusing and entertaining lady always full of energy and spirited determination yet a compassionate and caring person, modest, thoughtful and kind-hearted; she was an honest and straight-talking individual who loved life and lived it to the full.
Sadly, in later years Toby's health caused her much pain and angst. For such a vibrant and lively person to suffer so much was a cruel blow but her strong and indomitable spirit helped pull her through and she got on with life as best she could.
In June 2015 Toby made the long trip to Scotland to attend the 50th Anniversary Reunion of our year's graduation and those 1965ers who attended will have fond memories of Toby, especially delivering a succession of hilarious anecdotes, leaving her colleagues erupting in gales of laughter! Such happy memories.
Today, at this sad time, those same 1965ers will wish to join with me in sending our sincere and heart-felt condolences to Toby's family.

Having spent 3 years at college with Eileen (she’ll always be‘Toby’ to her college friends) I knew her to be a very talented and clever young lady. It wasn’t until we met up again in 2014 that I realised she was also very courageous, when I saw what diabetes had done to her. However her sense of humour was undaunted and I have precious memories of the twice I visited her and got to meet Lee, Clint and their families who were warm and welcoming, just like Eileen. Scott was just too far away.
Toby, I’ll miss you so much, but so, so honoured to have had you as a friend.

Eileen, you will always be present and continue to be my inspiration. I still cannot accept it is a memory, but I am grateful that life made our paths cross. Despite the short time we knew each other I got to learn a lot from you, starting with dignity. You had a beautiful heart and were always there for others. I am sure you are now with your loved ones up there and will look over your sons, daughters in law and your grandchildren. My deep condolences for your family and friends.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Eileen and Walley were the first Waterford friends Rich introduced to me. I was so nervous to meet them. I shouldn’t have been. Eileen’s warmth and welcoming hug immediately made me feel like family. That’s your Mom; warm, generous, and passionate. Passionate about her family and tennis and swimming and being independent. She was the bravest, most determined person I’ve ever known. I loved Eileen. I will miss our phone calls and when this fall comes, I will miss talking about the latest Syracuse football game.
Eileen was so proud of her family. I hope you find comfort in your memories and picturing your Mom and Dad dancing together once again.

I’m convinced Diabetes is a thief disguised as a disease. It robbed Eileen of several toes and part of a foot and didn’t stop until it had taken most of her eyesight. What it couldn’t take from her was her spunk, that prideful independent spirit, a maddening Scottish stubbornness, or her quick, keen mind. She was determined each day would be better than the last and filled with joy and laughter. Her uplifting home was the party spot, the meeting hole, or the place to go when one’s own home got boring.
Eileen lived by the values of the Four Fs…her Faith as a child of God, her Family of whom she absolutely loved and adored, her Friends to whom she was generous of time and self, and Fox News, which I’m sure she’ll be watching the Heaven version when she’s not dancing with Walley.
Eileen, you are one of a kind, an inspiration to all, and a dear friend who will be missed.

Miss Eileen was always so sweet to me and my family - quick with a smile and a laugh - as we enjoyed cookouts and kids birthdays with Clint's family. I loved to hear her accent as we chatted. I admire how active she strived to be well into her older years. And I always took note of how lovingly she talked about Mr. Mahle. We were happy to make a donation in her honor to the Diabetes Foundation.

Eileen will always be my inspiration on so many fronts. She endured pain with strength and endurance. She cared about others so much and always had an independent, can-do spirit. She will always be in my thoughts.

We have many great memories of Eileen at gatherings hosted by the family, surrounded by her family and friends. She was clearly enjoying every minute of it, with her distinctive laughter and the hint of a Scottish brogue when she spoke, which seemed to grow a touch stronger as the event went on. We will always think of her on such occasions. She is the epitome of what her fellow Scot, Robert Louis Stevenson said, “The [wo]man is a success who has lived well, loved much, and laughed often.”
