Obituary of Eleanor Beryl Rice
Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor B. Rice, 87, of Morgantown was carried by the angels to her heavenly home on July 15, 2022 at Stone Rise Nursing Home. Eleanor was born on June 21, 1935, daughter of John T. Murray and Elizabeth M. Murray, of Morgantown. Eleanor graduated from Morgantown High School in 1953.
After graduation, she moved to Lorain, Ohio and was employed at General Industries, where she met and married the love of her life, for 64 years, John Wesley Rice. They later moved back to Morgantown where they resided for 60 years.
Eleanor's jobs included Sterling Faucet, as well as a homemaker, and eventually she retired from Mon Pointe (now Stone Rise.)
Eleanor's greatest love was spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her blue eyes and her contagious kindness. She especially loved having her family all together for meals, holidays and special events.
Eleanor and John faithfully attended Burns Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved for many years in the Ladies Auxiliary.
Eleanor and John were blessed with four sons: Tim (wife Patty), Rod (companion Barb), Gregory (companion Sherrie) and Eric (wife Sarah); Grandchildren: Erin Mandel, Jennifer, Rodney, Tyler, Lindsay Layfield, Caleb, Breanna, Evan Rice and Dustin Keener, along with 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband John Wesley Rice, granddaughter Brooke Ann Rice, two brothers, Delbert Murray and John Murray; and a sister Dixie Ksiazek.
The family would like to thank Agnes and the staff at Stone Rise, Hospice, and those who cared for Eleanor at home.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Wednesday, July 20th from 4 – 8 p.m. and continue at Nicholson Chapel, Summers School Road, on Thursday, July 21st from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Linda Masters officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in her memory, to Burns Chapel Ladies Auxiliary or to Nicholson Cemetery.
