Joseph Baniak, 94, of Morgantown passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. Joe was born on July 8,1928 in Booth, WV. He was one of 12 children born to Joseph and Mary Kalmar Baniak and raised in Star City. Joe married Mary Virginia Romano on November 22, 1952 who preceded him in death on June 8, 2015. Joe was also preceded in death by his five brothers, Edward, John, Edmund, Henry and Andrew; six sisters, Wanda Basinger, Margie Deem, Phyllis Kostick, Carmella Urick, Mary Ann Ruppert and Joan Nabors. Joe is survived by his two children, Joey Baniak of Goldsboro, NC. and Marcia Jo Vaziri and husband Pete of Denver, CO. Joe was a World War II veteran serving with the occupation forces in Europe. Following his military service, he began a career in the coal mines and retired as a Federal Mine Inspector. Joe was a devout Catholic and dedicated member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus officer. He also enjoyed membership in the Moose Club and VFW.
