Obituary of Patricia Jo Shaffer

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia Jo Chico Shaffer, 84, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 25, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 3, 1938, daughter of the late Joseph Paul Chico and Betty Ellen Spina. Patricia (Patty Jo), a lifelong resident of Morgantown, attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School. She was taught by the Ursuline Sisters and graduated in 1956. As a young woman, she chose to be a full-time wife and mother. She enjoyed her role as her life evolved around school events, extracurricular activities, planning joyous holidays and vacation but always church wherever we went. She was active in many different ministries at St. Theresa's and then St. Francis de Sales and other beloved church homes. She was dedicated to the Music Ministry and the Funeral choir for many years. She was a Catholic Daughter and enjoyed the Senior luncheon and trips. Patricia and her late husband, Harold Phillip Shaffer, often took trips to Myrtle Beach of which their children and grandchildren would drop in for a visit. Patricia expanded herself and when her husband, who was her best friend passed, she became a supporter of the Women's Sports of WVU, "Hoops and Heels Club". She enjoyed going to the Women's Basketball and Volleyball games. She was a devoted and loving daughter and granddaughter caring for her mother and grandparents in their later lives, especially her Nonnie who never learned to drive. She was a strong loving, caring and fun mother and wife who set an example, a high bar, but attainable goals for her family, but always making a celebration as a Nonnie herself. Her grandchildren adored her and thoroughly enjoyed her company. Her great grandchildren will know her because her children will raise their children steeped in her traditions of God, family, and church. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Shaffer Turner and her husband, Gary, of GA, and her son, Daniel W. Shaffer of Morgantown, WV; their children, Jessica Turner Nichols (her husband) of GA, Zachary P. Turner (his wife, Brandy Priest Turner) of GA; Daniel I. Shaffer, of FL; her great grandchildren, Jackson G. Nichols, Ashton C. Nichols, Shaffer L. Turner, Everett G. Turner and Billie J. Turner. In addition to her parents, Patty is preceded in death by the love of her life, Harold Phillip Shaffer; maternal grandparents, Frank A. Spina and Irene Pratt Spina and paternal grandparents, Paul Chico and Grace DeAndrea Chico. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Personal Touch Home Care, Kristen Stewart and Hospice nurse, Sarah Robbins, for the wonderful care and support provided for our mother in this trying time. The family will receive friends and family at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Thursday, September 29th from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Peace Garden Mausoleum in Star City. Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is in care of the arrangements and condolences may be made online at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com.
