Mayota Jane Murray, 84, formerly of Morgantown, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Pierpont Genesis Center in Fairmont, WV. She was born March 14, 1938, daughter of the late Charles Albert and Mary Jane (Lanham) Gatian. She graduated from Morgantown High School in 1956. Mayota retired as a cook from Mon Pointe Continuing Care. Her favorite pastime was taking trips with her grandchildren and going out to lunch with friends and family, she loved baking bread. Mayota loved reading and wise cracks, she possessed a witty sense of humor. She was a caretaker and prided herself in supporting those she loved. Left to cherish her loving memories are two sons, Rick Pritt with partner Gretchen Heft, and Samuel Murray with partner Kim Hawkins; grandchildren, Samuel Clayton and Josilen Laine Murray; brother, Charles Gatian and wife, Betty; stepchildren, Brady, Brian, Brent, and Robin; step grandchildren Chelsie, Malachi, Matthew and Elijah. In addition to her parents, Mayota was preceded in death by her brother Roger Gatian. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Wednesday, January 4th from noon until 2pm. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
