I am greatly saddened to have missed George's funeral, as I just became aware of his death. My husband, Charles Thomas Dick, was one of the friends with whom George spent time at Cheat Lake so many years ago. Although Charlie and George didn't get to spend time together after those early days, they both thought fondly of the other. George attended our wedding in 1980, and I was so honored that he came to share that special event with us. I was just as touched to find that George remembered his dear friend at the time of his death, last June. George sent flowers to include the sentiment "I will see you in the Big Cheat Lake in the Sky".

Our most treasured memory of George occurred during the weekend several years ago when we celebrated the Consecration of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church by Metropolitan Maximos.During the banquet, George, as President of the Parish Council, gave an eloquent speech. He gave credit to those immigrants, including his own dear grandparents, who had, through dedication, deep faith, and hard work made it possible for the establishment of Orthodoxy in Morgantown. Your memory will truly be a blessing to all whose lives you touched. May our Heavenly Father grant your family peace as He welcomes you home and reunites you with your beloved Cathy.

George's organizational skills and attention to detail were a great asset to the people of Monongalia County. The resource book he prepared for emergency workers was invaluable when it looked like Monongalia County would become an evacuation site for Three Mile Island (which thankfully did not occur). When that was followed by two years of bad winter storms he helped set up Emergency Operations Centers in the Courthouse and directed the National Guard as it delivered emergency supplies to folk snowed in out in the rural areas. George made the County better prepared for emergencies.
