Billy Wingfield of Morgantown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2023. He was born on November 17, 1930 in Parsons, West Virginia, the son of the late Oliver Leroy Wingfield and Hallie Beatrice (Hedrick) Wingfield.
He was the oldest of their seven children. Billy is a Korean War Veteran. After completing his basic training at Fort Sill, OK, he was sent to Korea where he served with the 145th Field Artillery Bn,. A year after his discharge he enrolled at West Virginia University where he received a bachelor's degree in Forest Management. Upon receiving his degree, he was offered employment with the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. He holds positions on four National Forests the Jefferson National Forest, The George Washington National Forest, The Green Mountain National Forest, and the Monongahola National Forest, and with his family they lived and worked in the three states of Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia. Billy loved the outdoors and hunting. He killed his first deer at the age of 12 and always looked forward to annual deer season.
He retired with 31 years of career service. After retirement he worked as a private consultant Forester for 17 years, His clients were forest landowners. His hobby was woodworking. His last work was making outdoor swings and riding toys for his great twin grandsons, Brody, and Carson. He was a gentle soul that loved to be with people. No services will be held.
Billy is survived by his wife of 72 years, Carol Parsons Wingfield; his four children: Pamela Villers and spouse Michael of Woodstock, Ga, Scheryll Richards of Morgantown, WV, Brian Wingfield and spouse Ruth of Grand Junction, CO, and Kevin Wingfield and spouse Rachel of Marlinton; five grandchildren: Sheena Lecour of Woodstock, GA, Melissa Villers of Woodstock, GA, Cameron Villers of Atlanta, GA., Vanessa Richards of Cape Flora, FL, and Garrett Richards and spouse Megan of Morgantown, WV; five great grandchildren: Logan Lecour of Woodstock, Ayden Villers of Woodstock, GA, twins Brody and Carson Richards of Morgantown, WV, and Violet Richards of Morgantown WV; siblings: Ronald Wingfield of Medina Ohio, Sharon Tustin of Fairlawn, OH, Charlote Wingfield Johnson and spouse Clyde of Morgantown, WV, Deana Wingfield of Elkins, WV, and Lee Wingfield of Elkins, WV. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Billy was proceeded in death by his father Oliver Leroy Wingfield and his siblings: Dona Wingfield Bonner, Marlene Wingfield Gooch, and Franklin Wingfield.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home. Immediate family will gather later at grave site in Parsons, WV.
