I grew up with the Hahn family in rural northern Indiana. When we were children, my sister and I spent many hours together with Billy and his brother and sisters. We grew up attending the same church. Billy and I were in the same grade and the same schools together from First grade through Penn High School. He was number 21 on the Penn Kingsmen basketball team. He was President of our class our Junior year 1969-70. He also played on the varsity baseball team. In those days, Indiana loved its High School Boys Basketball. Everything revolved around the regular season and tournament play. Billy was a star--our hometown hero. I recall the announcers on the radio during an away basketball game talking about a fast break by "Little Billy Hahn.!" We grew up and moved away, and I regret that we didn't keep in touch. When I read about his marvelous life, and how much he loved and supported so many players and friends and family, it made me proud to say that all those years ago we were great friends. May God Bless family and friends at this time of sadness.

Billy was a star on our basketball team at Penn high school in Mishawaka Indiana. I have such wonderful memories of cheering for Billy and the entire Kingsman team. We had great basketball seasons and it was an exciting time for everyone. Billy was a leader and so full of life. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy to his family and all those who knew and loved him.

Back in 1995 my brother was involved in a horrific car accident which left him paralyzed. I got back home from Shock Trauma on the night of the accident at 2am...checked my answering machine, and the first message on there was from Billy. He didn't know my brother, but he knew I was hurting. That call meant the world to me. A few weeks after that, I visited my brother at the National Rehabilitation Center, with a transistor radio on, listening to Billy coach the Terps do a buzzer beating win over Duke. Memories of Billy will sustain me, and I know he's in a better place now. Miss you dawg.

Kathi, Matt and Ashley Sonnie and I extend our most sincere sympathy and prayers. We were recalling our last visit at Cheat Lake with Bill and he was so enthusiastic about life and being able to spend more time with family. It was a pleasure to know Coach Bill as a friend and to work with him professionally at OHIO. Again we are so sorry to learn of Bill's untimely death. May he now Rest In Peace.

This is a picture of Coach Hahn and myself taken a few years ago at Keglers in Morgantown. I would come home on vacation from Texas and we would get together for lunch. Coach could absolutely clean a chicken wing better and faster than anyone I’ve ever seen. Good times and great memories. I’ll miss him on my trips home. He was a great one !!!

I wouldn’t be where I am today without Coach Hahn. We met at WVU basketball camp in 2011. Coach Hahn observed me giving instructions to younger players and when the players rotated to the next station he approached me and said, “You really know what you’re doing! Keep at it!” To have someone of his stature believe in me was the push I needed to keep going. From then on he was a great mentor and friend. When he started speaking, I got him to come talk to players at the University of Washington. He brought so much passion and energy. If I would call, he would answer the phone with “Yo dawg! Count your blessings! It’s a great day to be alive.” He may be gone physically but his legacy and inspiration will last forever.
