Richard Matthews, 71, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born January 7, 1952 in Welch, WV son of the late Herbert Boyd and Willetta Rose Matthews. He married Robin Kay Matthews on December 9, 1972.
He served in the United States Army and was a proud member of the UMWA for over 25 years.
In addition to his wife, Richard leaves behind his children Ritch Matthews (Lauren Cramer), James Matthews, JB Matthews (Brittney), and Christina Krupa (Mark); grandchildren; Calvin, Payton, Bronson, Jayden, Jaxson Matthews and Hailey, Levi, Kylie and Kyle Krupa; and siblings, Steve Matthews (Beverly), Danny Matthews (Carmen), Brenda Blevins, Sandy Snyder (Rick), and Jeff Matthews (Valerie)
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son Nick Matthews; siblings, Jane Matthews and Harry Matthews; brother-in-law, Charlie Blevins; and mother-in-law, Doris Fay Smith.
Cremation arrangements will be provided. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Tuesday, May 23rd from 1 PM until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 PM. Friends and family are also welcome to honor the life of Nick Matthews during the visitation time.
