John and l were graduate students in the Genetics Department at Iowa State University at the same time and shared the same office in Curtis Hall. He introduced me to his Campus Baptist Church and were in the same men’s Sunday School class. John was a fine practicing Christian and young scientist. He was my best friend as graduate students. He received the PhD one year before me. Yes, he is with his Lord now. See you later. Wes Kloos of Horse Shoe, NC.

I just learned about John's passing (and Mary Gail's, too). I worked in John's lab at UNL for several years as an undergraduate. He was an amazing teacher and I still have all my notes from his genetics class. He was a patient boss and mentor. He was a good friend, as well, attending my wedding and staying in touch through Christmas cards, even through the move to Morgantown.
I am so very sorry for your loss. They were very wonderful people and gave so much to so many.

John was a dear friend of mine while he and Mary Gail were living in Lincoln. He was always interested in learning and came to my office at Back to the Bible where I could teach him New Testament Greek. This added to his skill of teaching the Bible.
I thank the Lord for our times together and our Christian fellowship on many occasions.

John was my mentor and colleague. He was an extraordinary example of how to be a Christ follower and a successful scientist. Throughout his scientific work he was always on the cutting edge, incorporating new techniques into his research projects. But his contributions were beyond the science. He was also a passionate teacher and example of Christian living. He will be missed.

I first met John in Estes Park through his wife Mary Gail. His winsome manner and the perpetual twinkle in his eyes i will long remember. Our group of oldsters whom he named The Rear Guard met regularly under his leadership. We had such happy and spiritually enriching times. He had a life well lived and will be missed by many.
