Obituary of Thomas Vernon Basferd

Thomas "Dick" V. Basferd, of Morgantown, passed away at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 93. Dick was born on December 11, 1929, in West Chevy, MD, son of the late William and Margaret (Skinner) Basferd. Dick served proudly in the US Air Force from July 1951 to June 1955. He was employed at West Virginia University as a maintenance mechanic in the Physical Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially being in the woods hunting. He was a member of the Rhododendron Hunting Club for 60 years. He was considered an expert marksman and showed his skills at Friday night shooting matches. Dick will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Anna Mae (Fazenbaker) Basferd; sister-in-law, Donna Lattanzi and nieces Jamie and Julie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers and sisters; in-laws, Melvin and Leola Fazenbaker; brother-in-law, James Lattanzi; and niece, Debbie.
