Obituary of Leo Otis Shay

Please share a memory of Leo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leo Otis Shay, 69, died on June 7, 2023, at home, surrounded by his family. Leo was born on February 16, 1954, the son of the late Otis and Helga Shay. From a young age, Leo loved the outdoors. From fishing, hiking, camping, and taking drives in the countryside, he wanted to be in nature. On his many hikes and drives, Leo always kept his eyes open for wildlife and kept a camera ready to take pictures. Leo had a never-ending sense of humor that he kept to the end, despite his many years of health issues. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1984. He had strong faith in the resurrection hope. Leo worked for Consol Energy as a coal miner for 20 years. He then obtained his contractor's license and started his business, Courtlea Home Repair. Leo is survived by his loving dedicated wife, Caroline (Morel) Shay. He passed on the anniversary of their 48th year of marriage. He is also survived by his cherished daughters Courtney Brady and husband Joshua, and Leah Shay and husband Scott Payne who admired him greatly and his three grandchildren who brought him the most joy, Connor Brady, Audrey Brady, and Leo Payne. Also survived by his sister, Diana Shay and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leo is preceded in death by his brother, Gerry Shay, and brother-in-law, William Morel. His family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care. Especially Amanda, Brandon, Misty, and Diana. Friends and family will be received for a memorial visiting at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, on Sunday, June 11, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. The memorial visiting will continue at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 379 Smithtown rd., Morgantown, on Monday, June 12, from 6:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 pm.
